I was extremely sad to find out over the weekend that the always lovable Jorge Castro has decided to take a back seat in the Gnu/Linux world. I had a chance to meet him over the UDS-MTV and was very impressed by his genuine interest and willingness to “make the world a better place.” (c) It is very unfortunate that we have so many people out there who rather spill poison than use their energy to be constructive!
Jorge, I really hope you’ll reconsider your decision! The community needs people like you, and I’m sure I am not the only one who thinks this way! I strongly believe that your inner drive is much stronger than all the negativity you’ve been exposed to!!! Think of any bitter words that have been tossed your way as just another one of those obstacles in life… just a minor pebble that I’m sure you’ll get over, for it will make you stronger!!! And boy, won’t it make it all much sweeter when you reach the summit and you look at all you’ve accomplished in your journey!
Warm regards from a Brazilian who thinks very highly of you!

Og, I couldn’t agree more. I was really bummed out at seeing Jorge’s post. I was even more bummed out to see the comments people left on his blog. I share a lot of Jorge’s frustration but I want him back. Please Jorge, come back!!!
I agree and I hope Jorge will come back very soon to us. I enjoyed very much his posts and the work he did at the time to support iFolder in ubuntu. At the time of writing, http://www.whiprush.org/ is still fully empty. Sad thing…
It is sad to lose Jorge. I don’t know anyone personally. Reading his last posts, I agree with some parts and disagree with others. I have had some problems with low software quality in major projects like OpenOffice. I think Jorge didn’t really understand what is going on in the Novell/SUSE/Microsoft deal.
The deal is about making a example of someone (Novell) paying MS for nothing so that they can use it to establish a precedent that all users of major chunks of free software will have to pay. It is an attempt to FUD/FUK desktop free software, it is like SCO.
At the least, it will slow down the adoption of free software. At most, it will force windows-style activation on desktop linux with the cash flowing to Microsoft or a Microsoft-lead patent pool.
While it is not the civil rights movement, working against Novell and SUSE is important to the future of free software.
Jorge,
We know you’re pissed. We get it – we really do. But, now that you’ve had a few days to cool off, come back to us. Please don’t let the idiots spoil it for everyone.
Please come back.
Gosh Darn It…Just when I find someone to work a room with…he get’s beat up by the politics.
Having had this happen to myself before and knowing Jorge somewhat, I can safely say Jorge maybe down but he’s not out. In a few months the current sting will lessen and he’ll get the FOSS Itch (Terrible thing, a rash really
and he’ll be back in a reinvented manner. He may not be involved in Ubuntu but there’s no way he’s down for the count.

Hi, Im not really a “community” member, and I disagree with Jorge on some basic issues, and frankly , I don’t know what really happened to him. All I know is whiprush.org is gone, hes nowhere to be found on irc, and when I noticed it all, frankly , I was worried. I met jorge through mdlug, and had the pleasure of hoisting a few cold ones with him, and he seemed a very energetic kind of guy. When I had problems with my loonix install, he was always willing to lend a hand..I miss whiprush.org.
