Last week I started using the text editor and IDE Geany for the first time, and I was pleasantly surprised with it! Obviously, there’s a pretty big number of text editors out there that with the “right” number of enabled would turn an ordinary editor to a super-on-steroids IDE, but I felt Geany to be a very light and fast option, with a couple of nice features already enabled by default.

For instance, there’s a class browser on the left hand panel that allows you to easily access functions, methods and properties in your code with a single click. Coupled with the ability to expand/collapse sections of your code (like a XML editor), Geany has definitely earned some more “testing time” bot at home and work!

I’ve spent a lot of time looking for a nice editor (for my modest php needs). The day I saw Geany was the day I stopped searching. It’s very fast and has all of the features I need. I wrote a review of Geany a while ago.
BTW… on Gnome (I can’t tell what env you’re using, the screenshot is just too small)), if you press ALT+PrintScrn, you’ll make a screenshot of the currently focused window.
Yes, a nice editor. It’s mostly the only one I use since some weeks, replacing Bluefish Editor, that takes more to load.
Thanks for this hint! This looks reallly promising. I’m (I was) using Scite up to now but Geany looks like a faster and more “gnomish” Scite successor.
It is an awesome, indeed, editor and IDE. I’ve been using it for months now, and it has already replaced gedit in my system. See what I’ve said about it
I use it as a wiki editor as well since it’s so lean. It’s quite a nice IDE alltogether.
A função Construct Autocompletion está a realizar com demasiada eficácia a sua tarefa…
Imaginemos que estou a corrigir código feito (leia-se: não criar código) e encontro, por exemplo…
for(int j=0; j , assim que eu colocar um espaço entre o for e o parêntese, a função executa e adeus ciclo for...It is definitely a great editor and it is nice to see that more and more people are starting to use it.
I personally have been using it for a long time now
I’ve been using it for the past 14 months and I must say it’s been really pleasant =)
It’s very very good for projects that are below 10 thousand lines, although it’s not heavy enough for big projects (I would use Eclipse/NetBeans for those).
Still, I’m glad people are using it, since it deserves more attention.
Thanks to Geany I can now rest myself from searching a good editor.
I like its speed, looks, actions, and everything! The editor that doesn’t get in your way.
Give it a try and you’ll never regret it. Highly recommended!
